Google Earth is addicting, Wikipedia is addicting. When the two were put together into Wikimapia I knew it would be addicting. I was right. This blog will attempt to point out fun and interesting things in Wikimapia. I hope you will enjoy it!

Check out the Matt’s Wikimapia Blog FAQ for answers to questions you may have (and let me know if you have more).

My main blog can be found at Matt Jones’ Random Acts of Verbiage.

Also, I do want to make it clear, I am in no way associated/affiliated with Wikimapia or its founders Alexandre Koriakine and Evgeniy Saveliev. I just apparently have too much time on my hands and enjoy Wikimapia.

As there are a number of people coming here from WikiMapia itself, I think I need to be more explicit here about the map imagery:

1) I am a fan of WikiMapia but I have nothing to do with its operation. It was created and is maintained by to Russian fellows: Alexandre Koriakine and Evgeniy Saveliev, not me.
2) Wikimapia obtains their map imagery from Google Maps. This means that even the creators of Wikimapia cannot control when map images are updated.
3) Google Maps purchases the map images (often from satellites or airplanes) from other companies (often Digital Globe or NASA). This means that, to an extent, Google Maps does not even control when images are updated.

I hope that is clear, let me know if you have more questions. Feel free to email me with questions, comments, or to just say hi!
